Dog Warden Tales and Rescue Dogs

Ricky - German Shepherd

Ricky  was in a rescue centre near Bracknell, Berkshire. He had been in there 9 months when John had found him.

He was an exceptional quality German Shepherd very good size and a wonderful temperament to match. However, before John had found him he had 12 homes in a period of one month. These homes did not work out for him as he was so highly strung and nervous he was destined to be put to sleep.  Ricky  was 3 years old when we had him and he never quite got over being pushed from pillar to post.

We used to take him out everywhere with us and each time he would scream and go into a sometimes uncontrollable frenzy. We think he was anticipating going to another home and being rejected and taken back to the kennels. Ricky was a challenging boy and one that John had very soon settled down.

Ricky and Major

A dog that John and I were very attached too.

Ricky was "Best Man" at our wedding in Gretna green - 15th June 1993

Ricky was exceptional as an obedience dog - he was trained to a very high standard which included search, tracking and man work.  He had such funny ways about him and used to have us in fits of laughter. See the link below for one of his favourite tricks.

Ricky's favourite resting place!

Sadly Rick left this world in 2000.

He is very sorely missed.
