It is so unfortunate that we had to repossess Heimdall from his owner.

When we sell our kittens the new owners sign a contract with us to ensure the future safety and welfare of the kittens lives. This includes the fact that they are sold as indoor pets only with access to a cat proofed garden or purpose built safe cat run.

Sadly Heimdall was found very near to death and in an appalling condition on May 21st 2004 shortly after his 2nd birthday.

The extent of his injuries was so horrific that I will not go into exact detail here, save to say his rear leg was severed from his abdomen and he had extensive cuts further to his abdomen, leg and rear end. His injuries were " suspicious". He was fly stricken on two separate occasions and his wounds were heavily infected. A further 24 hours and he would have died.

I was contacted 21st May 2004 by our own veterinary surgery who had been traced by the vets he was handed in to from microchip we had had implanted in Heimdall at 12 weeks old. Thankfully they contacted us as the owner could not be traced! ( The  owner and new address details were never changed by his owner)

We visited Heimdall at the surgery where he was handed in and although I have seen some horrendous sights in my time I could not have prepared myself for what I saw with one of our own bred kittens.

To say we were  shocked, sickened to the stomach and very angry was an understatement.

We tried for 6 weeks to have contact with his owner and at the end we finally managed it.

Heimdall was in the veterinary surgery some 5 weeks undergoing extensive surgery and therapy, the first job was to try and combat the serious infection.

Not once did the owner  contact them to see if his cat had been handed in.

( This surgery was the one whom he and his owner was registered with)

No attempt was made by his owner to contact us to say he was missing.

There was talk  in the early days that he may lose his leg ( which was not injured in itself - nor was there any scuffing of claws or broken bones) but thankfully all was well with extensive skin grafts to his leg and abdomen.

The vets and staff were all amazed at how this boy managed to pull through and we are absolutely delighted that they saved him, we can never thank them enough!

Below are some pictures of Heimdall now  visually recovered as best as can be.

The emotional trauma has not left him as yet it may never go fully.

I have placed a couple of pictures mid way down the page of his surgery, there is a warning above these pictures!  I will not  place here the pictures of his injuries due to the horrific content.

The page ends with Heimdall as a baby - so really on this page are pictures of his life from newborn to present day.

Heimdall has his own fan club across the UK and the rest of the world. The support from the vets and staff that treated him and other cat breeders internationally was overwhelming during his time of treatment and he received many cards and toys etc. Many well wishers mail regularly for an update :-)

He visits the vets who saved him occasionally and they are always so pleased to see him.

He really stole all their hearts with his bravery.

Heimdall will remain with us for the rest of his life.
